DESCRIPTION
Two thrilling mystery novels by highly successful and influential American-British novelist Raymond Chandler, bound together as the Mystery Omnibus.
The Big Sleep is the first novel to feature detective Philip Marlowe and is set in Los Angeles. Through the course of the novel, many characters double-cross each other, revealing secrets and becoming increasingly complex. The title is a euphemism for death, and dying is referred to many times in the novel as sleeping the big sleep.
Farewell, My Lovely (Murder, My Sweer) is the second of Chandlers novels to feature Philip Marlowe, who is investigating a murder that occurred at a nightclub. It was originally published in 1940.
The Big Sleep was adapted into a 1946 film starring Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, while Farewell, My Lovely (Murder, My Sweet) was adapted into a 1944 film starring Dick Powell and Claire Trevor. This work contains numerous illustrations from photographs taken during filming of both of these movies.
This is the first edition, second printing thus of this work, enclosed in the original scarce dust wrapper.
