FROM THE PUBLISHER
Vulgaris, our second monograph on Dutch photographer Ron van Dongen, contains a stunning new selection of botanical still lives and confirms van Dongen's position as the most innovative and exciting artist working in the genre today. By blending aspects of classical technique with an unmistakably modern approach to subject matter, van Dongen has cultivated a unique contribution to the longstanding tradition of still-life floral studies. This large-format book, which measures 14 x 17 inches, and contains 56 pages and contains 32 plates. The plates are printed in duotone on fine matt art paper, which is hand-bound in white cloth with a tipped-in cover plate, which measures 9 x 7 inches, on both the book and clamshell box. There is an Introduction Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, written by John Berendt. Vulgaris is printed in a FIRST EDITION of 2,000 copies and was not reprinted.
SUMMARY
This DELUXE LIMITED EDITION of Vulgaris is presented in AS NEW/PRISTINE condition and was purchased directly from the Publisher. There are 56 pages with 32 duotone plates printed on fine matte paper contained in this volume. The reproduction of the images inside the book is brilliant and done on heavy fine matt art paper by Ocean Graphic Productions in China.
As with Van Dongen's previous works, this hardcover book measures a very large 16 ¾ x 13 ½ inches, with the large format being van Dongen's easel on which he paints his images. Vulgaris is covered, both book and clamshell box, in an off-white fabric, with a 9 x 7-inch print tipped-in on the front cover with the title stamped below the print in an off-set dark color to the print. The First Edition, First Printing Trade Edition of Vulgaris was limited to 2,000 copies worldwide, and sold-out quickly. The Deluxe Limited Edition was limited to 25 copies, and the title is now Out-of-Print and has some listing confusion since the ISBN is shared between the regular Trade Edition book, which has 2,000 copies, and this Deluxe Limited Edition, which has only 25 copies.
