Habitat VIP Philip Treacy "Portrait" armchair

This is one of the most striking Very Important Products collection that then Creative DirectorTom Dixon curated for Habitat in 2004. The VIP concept was simple- to ask leading figures from different fields to design a product for Habitats 40th anniversary year.

Philip Treacy was asked as one of the foremost hat designers and created this stunning chair, based on his famous Disc hats from the era. It was produced as a numbered edition of 1000 (this one being number 337) in three colours and is an oversized statement of style.

Upholstered in 100% green wool with an injection moulded bi-density foam body over a steel frame and legs. It features hand stitching around the rim of the chair and a fixed foam seat cushion. Over-sized chair approximately 120cm wide and 112cm high.

Still as flamboyant now as when designed this chair is in very good condition- the foam is intact and still firm and the wool has retained its colour well. This fabric has a few areas that have deteriorated over time, largely because it is 100% wool and not through use, you can see these on the photos. I have a few of these chairs in stock and the material has similar characteristics on all of them.

This chair would create drama and interest to any room it lives in and has a great design pedigree which will ensure its popularity for many years to come.
