DESCRIPTION

A Fontainebleau edition of George Payne Rainsford James first and best known novel, in two complete volumes.

Originally published in 1829, the story is set in the latter years of Louis XIIIs reign when the eponymous Cardinal Richelieu was the French kings chief minister.

Both volumes have a page of publishers adverts before the title page.


CONDITION

In the original binding. Externally very smart, with a mark to the rear board of volume I, and some rubbing at the joint on the front board of volume II. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and some marginal wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Some spotting to endpapers of volume II, but otherwise pages bright and clean with the occasional mark.
