STATUETTE
en pierre dAksoum, marbre

représentant lempereur éthiopien Menelik sur son cheval. Il était le fils du roi Salomon et de la reine de Saba.

Elle vient de la région du Tigré (Tigray), située au nord de lEthiopie.

Ce nest pas une antiquité mais une sculpture dun certain âge réalisée par un artisan spécialisé dans lart copte ancestral, tel quon peut le voir dans les églises et monastères de la région. Nous garantissons son origine.

Cest une pièce rare, par son sujet symbolique et sa beauté ainsi que la qualité de sa réalisation.

Cette pièce, de 17 cm de haut , est sculptée sur les deux faces. Le roi, coiffé de sa couronne, est armé dune épée dans une main et protégé par un bouclier dans lautre. A ses pieds, servantes et serviteurs portant une chèvre pour le repas de cérémonie, boucliers et javelots. Sur le socle, une inscription dans une langue ancienne (Guéze ?) que nous ne sommes pas en mesure de déchiffrer. (Si un spécialiste peut nous éclairer, merci davance !)

La pierre est dans des teintes claires naturelles.
